Massachusetts Public School Rowing Association Champions (Fall 2019)

HOTC Race Information for 10/20

Sunday, October 20 is the Head of the Charles Regatta.  Only our Girls’ 1V and Boys’ 1V will be competing (Women’s Youth Eights @ 10:24 am and Men’s Youth Eights @ 1:12 pm).

Mandatory attendance is not required for those not competing, but we are looking into the possibility of a school-provided “fan bus” for the interested student-athletes who are not competing. If there is enough interest, the sign-up would be on a first-come, first-serve basis.  The “fan bus” will leave from the DRC at 7 am on Sunday and leave the race course for the DRC around 3 pm.

For those who are competing, the schedule of events is below:

Friday, October 18 – Early dismissal from school at 11 am in order to practice on the race course.  Friday is the only day that the course is open for practice, and the Charles race course is quite demanding for our coxswains. We will then be leaving Boston around 6 pm, returning to SHS.  We will travel there and back on a school-provided bus. Please have your daughters/sons pack a full lunch and a post-practice snack as they will not have the opportunity to eat at school. The school has already been provided the names of the student-athletes for this early dismissal.

Sunday, October 20 – The team bus will be leaving the DRC at 7 am and will be leaving Boston to return to the DRC around 3 pm.  We will not have the team tent set up for this race, so please make sure that your daughters/sons pack enough food and drink to sustain them for their respective races.  The Transportation Exception Form will NOT be required for this race, but if your daughter/son does not return on the bus to the DRC, they MUST let their respective coaches know on race day so that we can keep an accurate head-count.

WPI will be bringing our boats into Boston on their trailer, so when you get to our launch site, look for the WPI trailer.  We will be set up along the shore, between Christian Herter Park, 1175 Soldiers Field Rd and the Northeastern Boathouse.

The Head of the Charles has a website that has a host of valuable information.  Some links from this website (https://www.hocr.org/the-regatta/) that you may find valuable:

The weather right now is looking to be fantastic – mostly sunny, 67 degrees. Even if your daughter/son isn’t competing, this is just a great race to watch. You are surrounded by rowing and everything there is about the sport.
