BOYS’ & GIRLS’ CREW TRY-OUT INFORMATION
Tryouts will take place on Monday, March 18, Tuesday, March 19 and Wednesday, March 20 from 2:30 pm to 5:45 pm (for Girls) and 6 pm (for Boys) at the DRC. Students should meet in the SHS Commons to carpool to the DRC. Parent pick-up at the end of each day of tryouts will take place in the adjacent large parking lot of the state boat ramp. Final team rosters will be completed at the end of practice on Wednesday, March 20.
If the lake is not clear of ice or the docks are not installed, we will conduct the tryouts on land in their entirety. If the lake is clear of ice and the docks are installed, we will be on the water. Tryouts will happen rain or shine, cold or not-so-cold, so dress in layers and dress accordingly. Workout clothes, including running sneakers, must be worn. All student-athletes should eat well and stay hydrated.
Pre-registration for tryouts can be done through the parents’ account of PowerSchool, when “activated,” under the tab of “Sports and Activities.” All physical exam forms must be up to date with SHS in order to tryout (no exceptions). Physical exams must have been administered within 13 months of the start of tryouts.
ALL STUDENT-ATHLETES (REGARDLESS OF PARTICIPATION IN THE FALL 2018):
Beginning this season, we are implementing electronic copies and signatures of required forms. Everyone must use the following link (https://shrewsburycrew.org/links-forms/test/) to complete the electronic versions of the “Swim Aptitude,” “SHS Alcohol & Substance Abuse Contract,” and “Emergency Contact Form.” These electronic forms must be completed BEFORE the first day of tryouts. These forms need to be completed by a combination of the Parent/Guardian and the Student-Athlete.
Additionally, all student-athletes are required to register with USRowing. We ask that AFTER THE FINAL ROSTER IS MADE, you take a look at the “USRowing Waiver Form Instructions” on the same page as the other forms, and follow the directions listed on the document.
For those who make the final roster, Mr. Jay Costa will have a Parent/Athlete meeting (not yet scheduled, but is typically scheduled on the Thursday of try-out week) at 6:30 pm in the SHS Auditorium, followed immediately by a Crew-specific meeting at SHS, where details of the season will be given. Students must attend Mr. Costa’s meeting, but if time at home to compete homework will be more beneficial, we are not requiring the student-athletes to stay for the Crew-specific meeting. Parent attendance, alone, will suffice for the Crew-specific meeting. When we receive confirmation from Mr. Costa’s office about the date of this meeting, we will pass that information along.
